19th cent.
Gesso Frame
Up for sale is a STUNNING antique English, Edwardian / Victorian bronzed copper bas-relief plaque depicting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden being expelled by Archangel Raphael. Amid much vegetation and foliage this highly ornate scene is stunning crafted and looks wonderful when hung on any wall. This is by far the highest quality plaque with the most detail we have ever come across, it came from an art dealers estate after his passing. Resting in its original period gold gesso frame which is also highly ornate and decorated is in unbelievably good condition with just minor old stress cracks in the gesso, no damage or missing pieces that I can see.
This work is unsigned but the plaque this image on this plaque is known to have been created by an english company owned by George Richards Elkington 1801 - 1865. The plaque measures with a diameter of 10 inches while the frame measures 13.5 x 15.5 inches. This is a brilliant work of antique art and by far the most fabulous example we have been able to locate which has ever been offered for sale. On the reverse a previous owner had reattached this plaque into the frame using epoxy under the four wood arms.
