Bernhard Soldin was German Jew born in 1896 in the German city of Hamburg and was influence by the artist Thomas Hurbst in Weimer. Soldin had an exhibition in Munich in the early 1900's and was known as a watercolorist and landscape artist. Unfortunately his life was ended too short during WWII when he was taken into the Nazi concentration camp Theresienstadt and died April 9th, 1943. Soldin's works are very rare to come by especially one of this magnitude and subject of the entire city of Heidelberg with the Neckar river running through it.
This is a large and very impressive original composition from Bernhard Soldin depicting the city of Heiderlberg Germany from a nearby mountain. This cityscape is in its large original gold wood original frame which measures 42 x 27 inches while the canvas measures 35 x 20 inches. This painting dates to the mid 1920's and so well depicts the city at this crucial time in modern European history between the wars. The canvas is in overall good condition but needs a good cleaning, as well their are some pinhole punctures in the canvas absolutely unable to be seen unless under close examination. This is signed in the lower left corner "B. Soldin" in red paint easily visible and legible. This is a stellar original oil painting and one that deserves to be cleaned and placed in a nice collection or museum where it can be properly appreciated. Truly an outstanding antique oil painting!
