Up for sale is an exquisite commercially used illustration painting by one of my favorite American artists Elmer Boyd Smith. This painting was used as the main illustration, found just before the title page and dust jacket of many editions, for Cornelia Meig’s 1936 Western genre book “The Willow Whistle” published by The Macmillan Co.. The painting depicts the two main characters on horseback driving large wooly buffalo through a snowstorm. Trailed by a line of additional figures, including Native Americans, on horseback this cold scene shows snow laden ground also accumulating on the backs of the large beasts as the snow blows through from right to left. This painting is executed in watercolor and gouache on paper measuring 9 1/4 x 10.5 inches while its frame measures 18 x 19 1/2 inches and is in overall exceptional condition. The overall quality is outstanding and looks tremendous on the wall! The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this Elmer Boyd Smith illustration painting but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
