Up for sale is an exceedingly rare aquatint etching with hand applied gouache by the 19th century Swiss master printmaker Heinrich Siegfried. Titled “Zurich depuis la Waid Coté du Nord” this panoramic landscape shows the city of Zurich with many figures in the foreground leading to the towering snowy mountain peaks on the horizon. This aquatint etching bears hand painted gouache and is partly highlighted with egg white. The etching measuring 12.75 x 22.25 inches (sight) while its early 20th century red wood frame measures 17.75 x 26.5 inches. The condition is all original and very good with the only natural imperfection being discoloration of the white egg highlight which has turned to a darker black color primarily to the clouds and snowy mountain tops. There is some slight discoloration in the sky and the lake in the middle ground.
