Up for sale is an outstanding and rare original oil painting on canvas by Mitsuzo Shimizu depicting a fine rocky coastal seascape. With crashing waves to the left and dark sky over head a couple of white birds fly over head. Painted with areas of thick brush strokes and heavy applications of paint as seen in the foreground rocks and waves creates a dynamic and powerful painting. The sky is so well captured with its life like blending of color even though the sun is not visible through the grey. Executed in oil on canvas the work remains in its original vintage wood frame measuring 28 x 32 inches while the canvas measures 19.75 x 24 inches. Signed in the lower right corner an additional small plaque with the artists last name is applied to the low center frame. The canvas is in very good condition with just some surface grime present and minor craquelure. The frame shows some cosmetic blemishes. This painting is an absolutely fine example from the talented Shimizu displaying his ability to capture the tumultuous sea battering the ragged coast.
