Up for sale is an absolutely fantastic antique painting executed in gouache and pencil on paper depicting a medieval Priory in ruins. This painting was executed by the Irish gentleman / reverend William Francis Seymour who signed in in very small lettering at the low center just outside the painting. While the work is titled low center the first word is difficult to read appearing to be “Heutmon Priory Tum” but apparently is incorrect as I can not locate it either in England or Ireland. This night time landscape shows a partial moon in the low left sky with the priory ruins just over the ancient bridge. A couple of homes can be seen to the right with one home billowing smoke from its chimney. This expertly painted image is an absolutely charming work of art and quite rare as well. Verso reads the artists name “W.F. Seymour of Cork County, Ireland”, the title again and the date of 1856. The paper is embossed in the top left corner “Newman 24 Soho Square” and was a prominent artist supply distributor. The condition of the painting shows some discoloration and staining with minimal surface imperfections/abrasions. This is one of two original gouache paintings I currently have from Seymour so if you are interested check the other one out of feel free to send me a message. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine antique painting but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
