August de Wilde is a 19th century European artist from Belgium painting primarily dark interior / tavern scenes of merry making. This original watercolor and gouache on paper is much brighter and highly unusual for this artist. Depicting the highly appealing Belgium country side with a windmill in the background and cows grazing upon the lush grass of the field. A small stream runs up the left side until it disappears at the base of the windmill. The overall quality and colors are excellent in overall good condition. This work has been unframed for many years and succumb to some imperfections around its edges and corners but its minimal considering it dated to the middle of the 19th century. The lower left corner is creased and the paper has slightly yellowed over the years.
This work is signed in the lower left corner in an orange color "A. deWilde", his highest realized work of art was an orientalist scene sold at Christies in 2003 for a little over $10,000 dollars. This is a stunning and rare watercolor depicting an uncommon landscape from de Wilde. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty.
