Minnia Wilson was an active California painter in the late 1800's, early 1900's. Rarely do her works come up for sale but her particular style and execution attests to her talent and the fact that she has been an under appreciated west coast artist. With so many excellent artists painting in this region in the early 20th century Minnie held her ground painting landscapes as well as illustrative portraits. This original oil painting on artist board depicts a beautiful California Coastal Landscape of Palos Verdes Rolling Hills Country Club House over looking the ocean, as seen written in the artists hand on verso. Using bright colors and an impressionist wide brushstroke style this work flows with wonderful texture and live. Each stroke is visible adding depth and a sense of movement, if you continue to be drawn in you can almost hear the wind coming off the ocean and the smell of the salty air.
This measures in total 15 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches while the artist board measures 14 x 18 inches and is in overall excellent condition. The only slight blemish is in the top left center sky which shows a minor scratch/scuff. The name is slightly faded but still clearly legible in the lower right corner written in ink and the original gentleman who purchased this "Bob Wilson" is written along the back with his New York address. This is such a fabulous and rare California artists depicting a wonderful landscape of Palos Verdes overlooking the ocean.
