Carey Cloud lived a fascinating life as an artist and toy maker for the Cracker Jack company inventing and producing some of the companies most iconic and desirable metal toys during the 1940's. After World War I Cloud started to create greeting cards and illustrating children's books before working with Cracker Jack. After all this Cloud then started to paint in what he called "realism in depth" which he related in style to Andrew Wyeth. This oil painting depicting an early 20th century general store has all the lovely imagery one could hope for. The building has many old porcelain advertising signs for beer, soda and cigarettes and then what makes this even more special is having the very early car to the left parked outside. The attention to detail in this work is phenomenal as you can see every individual board which the building is composed of and their imperfect consistencies. The lack of motion and absence of figures in this work adds a very still calm sense of what the "old days" used to be like, slower and peaceful. Housed in a silver wood frame hand made in Belgium that measures 37 x 27 inches the painting measures 30 x 20 inches and is in pristine condition. This large size separates this from Clouds other original compositions as well as the killer subject matter making this a truly special work of art.

This work is signed in the lower right corner and also signed on the back of the frame in black ink as seen verso. Also attached to the back is an original artist pamphlet with a short artist biography. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine original oil painting but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
