Carl Glen Bray was born in Prague, Oklahmoa on May 17, 1917 and was primarily a western desert landscape artist. Bray studied art at Miami College and then moved to the Coachella Valley in Southern California in 1936 and continued study in the Works Progress Administration studying with Maynard Dixon and Russell Swan. Over the years he was a popular lecturer - demonstrator for college classes, television shows and art groups. For 50 years he had an art gallery on Highway 111 in Idian Wells, CA. He died there on July 23, 2011 with a body of work consisting of over 13,000 desert depictions and 100 awards.
This phenomenal original oil painting is a stunning example of why Carl Bray become such a beloved and collected western American artist of the 20th century. This is a large painting measuring a total of 50 1/4 x 28 inches in its frame and 48 x 24 inches for the painting on masonite. Many of Bray's works that come up on the market are very small measuring less than 15 x 15 inches. Showing another superb desert scene with a monumental mountain range in the background and desert landscape in the front their are small bushes with 5 tall Ocotillo trees sprouting with red flowers also known as "desert coral".
Signed in the lower left corner "Carl G Bray" this work is in very good condition with just one small chip in to top right just poking out from under the black wood frame. The frame also shows some wear.
