Up for sale is a beautiful and rare original oil painting on board by the beloved American artist Harrison Bird Brown depicting a Portland Maine lighthouse at night with crashing waves below. This oil painting is a small but powerful composition with great intensity and ominous overtone. The painting is dark with the orange glow at the top of the light house giving the majority of the light. Barely seen in the lower right corner is a ship on the water with a very faint orange light on the horizon seen in the 6th image provided. The white crashing waves at the base of the lighthouse add a strong contrast and are well crafted adding an excellent texture.
The condition of this painting is good but their is damage to the board which has a tear in the upper left corner as seen in the 3rd photo with tape on reverse. Their is also a minor impression in the painting in the left center as seen in the 7th image provided. The frame appears to be original and with no missing gesso.
