Up for sale is a intriguing work of art by the listed Vietnamese artist Le Chanh depicting a samurai type figure pulling back a bow with a flaming arrow and axe at his waist. Standing upon what appears to be rolling waves of green, blue, black and white this portrait is well composed and fascinating to view. What makes this work increasingly appealing is its fascinating provenance and history between the U.S. and Vietnamese government's military. This painting was gifted to Brigadier General Edward J. Miller by Brigadier General Bui The Lan who was the Commandant of the Vietnamese Marine Corps. This was gifted in honor of the 197th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. All of which can be read from the engraved silver plaque low center. Rarely do paintings surface by Le Chanh making this not only rare in scarcity but also the provenance which makes it such a unique work of art.
The painting is executed on wood panel and is signed and dated 1972 in the lower right corner. Le Chanh wonderfully added in the upper left corner of the painting the Marine Corps Eagle symbol which makes it known that this work was created specifically for this purpose and not an afterthought. The condition of the painting has some loss of paint, scuffs, scratches etc... but is overall solid. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this wonderful work of Vietnamese art but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing1!
