Marc Chagall’s 1969 color lithograph “Intimite” (Intimacy) is a stunning example of some of his most iconic imagery and an overall charming romantic work. At the center of this work resides a beautiful bouquet of flowers sitting in a pitcher full of reds, greens, bright yellows and small applications of blue. The couple embracing each other in the upper right is mirrored by the beauty of the flowers clearly showing the thriving and colorful love they have for each other. The couple stares into each other’s eyes in a gentle embrace while an angel flies overhead just inside the frame of the window. Outside is a clear sky with flowers present on just the other side of the window. Everything that has “life” within it has color, drawing all subjects together with their common similar connection of life and beauty.

Chagall is known for his use of flowers and embraced lovers of which this print acts as a perfect example of his beloved romantic style. In addition to the subject matter depicted Chagall is just as well known for his soft and light palette used which so masterfully emits his desired emotion. Created in 1969 this lithograph is from the small edition of only 50 and is in excellent condition. A small faint handling creases is present to the lowest right corner and minimal line from its previous matting. This work comes unframed and will be shipped flat, it is an outstanding example of Chagall’s best printmaking rarely making itself available.
