William Dexter Bramhall was born in Massachusetts on May 17, 1914 and ended up moving across the country settling in Los Angeles in 1940. Primarily executing California and western landscapes his works rest in private collections with little recognition to the talent that he showed most likely due to the late start making his way to California. While he did not make the large impact on the arts as many other California artists the quality of his works are none the less attractive and rare to come across.
This original watercolor on Arches paper shows a beautiful American landscape of rolling hills with red flowers, a barn in the middle of the composition with low rolling mountains in the back with a big western sky overhead. The sky takes up two thirds of the painting and makes you feel as though its consuming the land below. With the large white cumulous cloud expertly painted with soft blue hues, it looks life like and attests to Bramhall's talent. The overall condition is excellent free from any serious signs of damage or abuse free from any rips, tears, creases or punctures. The only imperfection is a light matt burn from the previous framing and a couple of minor yellow spots. The work is visually outstanding, I love landscapes with big western American skies, theirs a majestic and grand feeling that comes with it. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine watercolor but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
