"Wladyslaw Chmielinski (1911-1979) was born in Warsaw and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts between 1926 and 1931. His preferred media were oil and watercolor, which he used for his earliest works dating from the years 1935 to 1938. His central motif was Polish architecture, which he discovered, for instance, in Sandomierz or Krakow. He also painted interiors of historic churches and palaces such as the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Another part of his oeuvre includes rural scenes, which he usually decorated with sleighs, toboggan scenes or folk festivals. From 1967 to 1969 he was repeatedly active in Denmark, but continuously lived and worked in Warsaw."
This original oil painting on canvas is a little gym capturing how great of a technical artist Chmielinski was. Depicting another (most likely) Warsaw street scene in the winter time it shows a great understanding and execution of depth, architectural depiction and perspective. All the figures are sized perfectly for where they fit into the composition within this cold almost dreary street. The condition of the painting is excellent with no issues but the frame has seen better days. I have left it in this frame to just better protect it while its in my possession. Wladyslaw's works became high in demand during his lifetime and have continued to be beloved works in fine European collections. With the majority of his pieces already in public and private collections these are becoming much more scarce.
