Up for sale is an exquisite antique oil painting depicting a female portrait by the celebrated Cincinnati born painter Matthew A. Daly. Most recognized for his career as a painter for Rookwood Pottery, he was also an accomplished portraitist of which this is a fine example! Titled “A Girl in Green” as seen verso, this work shows a wonderful impressionist portrait of a soft featured woman looking directly at the viewer. This highly attractive portrait shows colorful decoration to her hat matching that of the flowers she holds in her hand on her lap. Composed of lovely brushstrokes, this work is executed in oil on canvas board measuring 10 x 8 inches while its later gold wood frame measures 12 x 10 inches. Signed low left “M.A. Daly” the work is dated verso 1902 and even retains an old receipt when the previous owner purchased it in 1968. The condition is fine showing some surface dirt / grime and light blemishes to its frame.
