Up for sale is an incredibly rare and beautiful oil painting depicting an Upstate New York autumn mountain landscape. Executed in oil on masonite the painting measures 15 x 20 inches while its period wood frame measures 18.5 x 23.5 inches. This autumn landscape shows rolling mountains in the near distance cast in a purple shadow with a wonderful line of trees changing into warm orange and reds. All cast under a blue sky filled with white clouds, this secluded and relaxing landscape is easy to enjoy viewing from its composition, color and texture of paint upon the masonite. Signed in the low right corner “A. Hepworth” the painting is dated 1950 and serves as a tremendous example by the artist. Known as a portrait painter his works in general are extremely rare scarcely surfacing for sale let alone landscapes such as this! The condition of the painting is fine apart from the fact this needs to be revarnished which would dramatically help the depth and colors removing the yellow varnish. This painting has never been handled by a conservator and is in its original, excellent condition and in what is most likely its original frame.
