Eberhard Fiebig is a German artist born in the town of Harzburg in 1930. Eberhard Fiebig's works are rarely seen up for sale in the United States and rarely even seen outside of private collections. Eberhard preferred the medium of 3-D sculpture and no other oil on canvas is known to have ever been up for sale making this is a rare and unique piece of art from this 20th century German artist. Many of his sculptures are large pieces and in public parks and high traffic public areas in Germany.
This oil painting on canvas depicts a European coastal town with a couple of boats in the harbor under the setting sun that is half way below the horizon casting a dark sky with a orange haze. This painting is signed in the lower right hand corner "E.F." and in a period correct frame also believed to be the original which shows some slight cosmetic wear that is common to a mid-century painting.
This painting is a beautiful coastal sea scape with a bit of human emotion with the elderly lady and her walking stick in the foreground. The condition of the oil painting is good with a nice even craquelure showing its age. The canvas has a line that runs down the left side and top about .25 inches off the edge of the frame. Their is a slight loss of paint in the upper right corner shown in photo number 10. Their also seems to be some in-paint over a old repair in the top center of the canvas as seen in photo number 9 measuring 2 x 1 inches. On the reverse written in pencil on the top left corner is "No. 5", "E. Fiebig". Their is a illegible word that follows "No. 5" which was its gallery number.
