Famous for his snowy landscapes, this forest interior shows heavy laden snow with a small winding river at sunset. Depicting one of his most famous views, this scene is where he decided to purchase and build his home and studio located in Fontanelle Forest in Sarpy County, just South of Omaha, Nebraska. This tremendous example from Gilder is signed low right and dated 1915, just one year before he chose to live in this location making it a notable example. Executed in oil on canvas board, the painting measures 18 x 14 inches while its wonderful original wood frame measures 25.75 x 21.75 inches. Showing tremendous brushwork and color, the warm orange and pink tones from the sun are cast across the snow inviting the viewer in. In fine condition, the painting and frame are superb in their original condition with the frame showing some light wear.
