Up for sale is an incredibly rare and fine woodblock printed from the celebrated early 20th-century female artist Wanda Gag. Entitled “Cats at the Window” this fun and charming print depicts three cats staring through a window surrounded by ornate drapery out to a small bird happily chirping on a tree branch just on the other side of the glass. The subject matter of felines is incredibly desirable given her most famous work of art being her self written and illustrated 1928 book “Millions of Cats”. A fun aspect of this print is given that we are viewing the three cats from the back and can only imagine what their facial expressions show. The attention to detail is just fabulous from the work in the cat’s bodies to the beautiful detail seen in the window drapes. The print has a “W” within the print located at the low left corner and it is signed in pencil “Wanda Gag” low right. Resting in a fine vintage frame measuring 13 x 10 1/2 inches this work is ready to be displayed and enjoyed. The condition of the print is absolutely fine, it has not been examined outside of its frame. This important female artist is represented in the permanent collection of the some of the world’s most well-respected establishments with this exact print in the collections of the MOMA and Whitney. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
