Margaret A. Jones was born in 1862 learning to paint early staring by painted china but was more notable for her California landscapes. With what little works that have surfaced they have proven to be of extreme quality and wonderfully aesthetic depictions of California before the mad excitement and notoriety of the early 20th century by artists like Alfred Mitchell or Birger Sandzen. This landscape is executed in watercolor on paper and signed in the lower right corner. Resting in its original thin wood frame which measures 22.5 x 29.75 inches the matting has been changed. Mounted to the backed board the work is in excellent condition with just some expected discoloration. The colors used are excellent especially as Margaret added spots of bright vivid blue in the trees to the right.
