Early 20th Century
Up for sale is a wonderfully rare original watercolor by the early 20th century English artist Henry George Hoyland (1895 - 1947). This watercolor executed on paper depicts an arched bridge crossing over a river with homes visible to the far right. Figures are seen by the water’s edge enjoying the beautiful day while a horse-drawn cart piled high with hay passes over the bridge. Signed in the lower-left corner “H.G. Hoyland R.B.A.” this work is undated but was painted circa 1930. Measuring approximately 9 3/4 x 13 3/4 inches it is mounted (original) to heavier card stock measuring 11 5/8 x 16 inches. While the condition of the watercolor is good the work does show some toning, discoloration and minor foxing. The bridge is nicely painted in the reflection of the water and the work is just overall charming to view. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this rare painting by Henry Hoyland but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
