Up for sale is a beautiful and rare original composition by the German painter Alfred Kusch. Possibly depicting the small town of Cochem, Germany this small town of only 5,000 people is located west of Frankfurt sitting along the Moselle river. Executed in gouache on board this painting shows the small picturesque town at night during the winter with a full moon showing through breaking clouds. Snow adorns each and every roof casting a smooth cold blanket over the already chilly cityscape. The quality and level of attention is impressive and the warm yellow glow from all the buildings windows give off an inviting feeling. A castle rests atop the mountain overlooking the city and the St. Martin cathedral tower reads 8:00 PM. This painting is truly a superior example of Kusche’s works as he painted mostly majolica / pottery doing very little works otherwise. The size of the painting measures 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches while the vintage wood frame measures 19 1/2 x 16 1/4 inches. The condition of the painting is in very good condition with only a couple surface lines on each side of the spire top. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine German night time cityscape of Cochem but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
