Up for sale is a fine 19th century original woodblock by the talented and significant Japanese print maker Utagawa Kuniyoshi. This untitled woodblock depicts a female in blue floral dress leaning against the railing of a deck with a nice burly tree reaching from her right up over her showing some green above. In the background is a river and just on the other side a busy city scene with hundreds of what appear to be dancing figures. Verso is a typed card with the artist info and provenance of being purchased at the Chicago Columbian Exposition of 1893! Resting in its vintage frame, the work has not been examined outside. The print shows discoloration, wrinkles and two small holes in the top left of the sky as seen photographed just left of the females head. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine and rare woodblock but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
