Up for sale is an incredibly scarce and rare example of Frank King’s original comic strip art from his famous “Gasoline Alley” cartoon which debuted in August of 1918. This four panel cartoon strip is executed in black ink on paper and features the main character Walt Wallet in his very early days. This comic strip is dated in the lower right corner of the 3rd panel “1921” and signed in the lower right of the final panel “King”. This strip shows Walt giving Ivan a ride into town where comical dialogue proceeds from Walt about the problems his car has and how he could fix them all if he wanted too. The size is very nice with the drawing measuring approximately 20 x 6 inches and in good original condition with some toning and slight soiling to the paper. The work is also inscribed to Bill “Happy Christmas” from Frank in 1959. The original thin black and red wood frame shows some minor cosmetic blemishes but the work overall is truly magnificent and a worthy piece of one of America’s most famous and longest running cartoons. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this piece of fine art but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
