Francisco José Rufino Coro Marrodán was a very important leader of the art in Matanzas, Cuba even teaching painting at the Matanzas School of Fine Art. Francisco was given many accolades and recognition for his portraits as he was able to accurately capture the sitters features and expressions. This phenomenal life size portrait depicts a beautiful and young woman sitting in a large wood chair well dressed in a blue and white silk dress with white floral stitching around her bosom and dark blue hat atop. A gold ring is on her right hand and a tear drop gold pearl necklace around her neck. The expression on her soft face is calm and collected clearly showing her important status and one of wealth in the mid 50’s. Unfortunately the sitter is unknown. The painting is in excellent condition with minimal craquelure and browning varnish seen particularly around the chest and shoulders in the white dress. The canvas is very large and as a result it may be an issue shipping. If you are able to pick this work up that is recommended otherwise I think it safest to remove the canvas from the stretcher and ship this lightly rolled. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this very rare Cuban artist but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
