Guy Milligan is a fabulous American artist of the south born in 1927. He paints in watercolor depicting the old cities of South Carolina and subjects that dwell their. Painting plain street scenes to parishioners heading to church, oyster shuckers and even woman fishing along the coast he has a unique charm and way of depicting the beautiful south. His works are in high demand and rare to come by selling very well at auction when they surface. When looking at his usual compositions a couple people may be present and the scene is usually painted with a more drab color palette. This watercolor showing a 4th of July Parade in Beaufort, South Carolina far exceeds that of his usual images! All this takes place along Bay St. in front of the famous John Mark Verdier House also known as the Lafayette Building built in 1804.
This original watercolor shows an incredibly lively scene which no other pictures can compare. Counting a total of 41 individuals ranging from the full marching band to the many people viewing along the roads side this is packed to the brim! Not only does the high amount of people make this special but the strong bursts of color most notably in the American flag in the left foreground that sharply penetrates the work with a blast of color and life. Their are also nice pink and blue balloons as well as the stunning young African American girl in a stark white dress decorated with red, white and blue bow waiving a flag.
The condition is absolutely flawless with outstanding aesthetic beauty and subject matter that far exceeds any other compositions I have seen. This is truly a gem of a watercolor by Milligan and is ready to be hung on the wall in your home or collection. The only slight imperfection is a small knick on the lower right edge of the frame. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine watercolor but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
