Hattie Russell MacCurdy was born in 1883 actively painting in New York the majority of her life. Not only was she an active painter in New York but also in China where she became a missionary. Hattie is best known for her gorgeous pastel landscapes and studies that are not only impressively executed but eye popping with bright colors.
This original pastel is entitled "East End of Long Island, Go Home, Georgian Bay as seen on the label attached to the reverse. The titled label is signed by Hattie with her full name, also included is the original gallery label "Plohn & Co. 10 E. 8th St. New York". The pastel is absolutely beautiful with its bright and vivid colors everything comes together making an appealing and impressive composition. The condition is exceptional with no visible damage. This painting has been inspected outside of its frame and the pastel, which has been painted on paper, has been laid down to its backed board which is normal for her works.
This piece has been conserved with new acid free matting and backed foam board but the wood frame is original adding a nice touch. This is personally one of my favorite works for sale and one that rests on my walls.
