Up for sale is an excellent published illustration for the Chicago Tribune by the famous American cartoonist Jeff MacNelly. Dated 10/1989, this work is signed upper left “MacNelly” and again after the inscription in the top margin “Jeff MacNelly”. This work is executed in ink and gouache and shows two men in a small town diner discussing their annoyance with how long the 1960’s has lived on so strong. One reads a paper with the title “20 Years of Fabulous Sixties” while the other mans paper reads “The Moon - 20 Years Later”. This discussion happens while humorously on the television above is a commercial reading “Elvis! …Still Dead - A Simulated News Special”. This work was gifted by MacNelly to the owner of the News Gazette “Marajen Stevick Chinigo” as seen written top left adding just another charming layer to this rare cartoon. Extremely well executed, this artwork shows great detail and character as it measures 8.75 x 12 inches while its thin black wood frame measures 13.25 x 16.75 inches making it ready to be hung and enjoyed! The condition is good showing light matt burn and a vertical crease original to the work. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine original Jeff MacNelly, Chicago Tribune published cartoon, but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
