Frances Morris Orr was born in Springfield Missouri in 1880 and is a listed artist in the "Woman's Who's Who of American Contemporary Painters". Primarily known for her landscape compositions this is a unique addition to her small and rare portfolio of works known. Depicting a still life of old glass object with a large oriental flow blue plate in the center this painting is appropriately titled on the reverse by Orr as "Old Glass". Intricately painted in impressionist fashion this composition was greatly with not only brush but the top half and oriental plate were filled in using a palate knife giving the painting a beautiful 3d textured effect.
Signed in the lower right corner "Frances Morris Orr" and dated 1934 this could have been on display at the Salons of America exhibition in April of 1934 where she had been showing her work. I included a photo of the artists who exhibited their works with who I believe Frances Orr is at the top of the stairs top right in the black hat. The condition of this original oil painting on canvas is excellent with some minor craquelure and two minuscule paint flakes in the top left corner. Their are no patches, repairs, puncture, rips, tears or signs of abuse. The canvas does have some play back and forth.
The quality of this work of art is absolutely fine with a intricate use of light pastel colors in what appears first to be an overall gray picture. Taking a closer look reveals blues, purples and greens. The images provided accurately represent this rare and fine original from Orr but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
