Parker Newton was born in New York and worked most of his painting career in the North Eastern United States as well as the Toronto area. Not only was Newton a painter but also an illustrator and writer with a multitude of his paintings in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
Up for sale is a finely executed oil painting on canvas showing an upstate New York landscape on a beautiful sunny day. White clouds float overhead above the distant mountain while the left foreground is densely filled with tall trees losing their leaves. This painting is executed on canvas measuring 24 x 30 inches while the original wood frame measures 31 1/2 x 37 1/2 inches. While the recto is unsigned, there are pencil inscriptions verso with the name "Newton". This work could have possibly been painted by the well known American artist Parker Newton who was active in New York and lived from 1861 - 1928. The condition of the painting while overall excellent does show expected minimal craquelure and slight scuffs / cosmetic blemishes to the frame. This is an absolutely gorgeous early 20th century oil painting and is ready to be hung and enjoyed.
