Up for sale is an exquisite oil painting by the Swiss born painter Jean Jacques Pfister depicting the 15th century Church of Saint Maria del Sasso located in Morcote, Switzerland. Executed in a most lovely California plein air / impressionist style this painting displays the artists most desirable and attractive style. Executed in oil on canvas measuring 22 x 18 inches the original wood frame measures 26.25 x 22.25 inches and is signed low left “Jean J. Pfister - Holt”. Pfister served as an associate professor or art at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida during the 1930’s and this work came from a collection of art located just minutes from the school. The painting does have condition issues including a discolored and uneven varnish, craquelure, 3 inch vertical tear low center (as photographed) and minor surface imperfections. Fortunately the tear is clean with no missing oil making this a perfect candidate for restoration resulting in a phenomenal painting from this Southern California inspired artist. It is quite rare to find such a wonderful composition from the artist making this a rare opportunity especially with this being the first time becoming available.
