Up for sale is a phenomenal large plate etching by the Dutch master Rembrandt entitled “The Raising of Lazarus” depicting the famous New Testament event where Christ raised his friend Lazarus from the grave four days after his burial of which is only recorded in the Gospel of John. Originally printed in 1632 this etching is from a much later posthumous printing but from the same plate and quality. Christ is seen standing in the middle ground with one hand raised as Lazarus comes out of the ground while men to the left and right are in shock and fear. The print is in excellent condition and has been housed in an Italian made burl wood frame with grey matting which looks phenomenal overall especially when hung! A faded signature can be made out in the plate just to the right of Christ’s torso along the bottom of the hanging drape. Please pay attention to the fine detail of the print from the realistic expressions from the shocked men to the fine etched raised hand of Christ and weapons that are tied up in the top of the drapery. The condition of the print is pristine while the frame is also excellent! The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine Rembrandt etching but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
