Up for sale is an outstanding 19th century African American portrait executed in oil on canvas. This original painting depicts a young pre adolescent boy wearing a brown coat with stripped shirt beneath. The condition is near flawless as the canvas has been well preserved and taken care of. Considering the age of this which dates to the mid to late 1800's it is an exceptional and rare example of African American portraiture. The frame is not original but added later but the canvas and stretcher are original void of damage or repairs. The canvas measures 6 x 8 inches while the frame measures 9 x 11 inches.

 This is an excellent oil painting and one of which subject matter is rarely seen for sale. These early African American works are usually closely held onto in private collections, institutions and museums.
