Up for sale is an OUTSTANDING antique oil painting depicting a large castle sitting upon the rocky mountain coastal cliffs overlooking the sea with a raging sky above. This original oil on canvas is a spectacular piece of early art dating to the early 1800's. This came out of a collection of art that came directly from England. This piece is unsigned but does have a partial illegible paper label on the reverse as seen in the last photo provided. 

The quality of this painting is beautiful and the level of execution follows suit. The ominous sky is dark and scary which sets the mood with the large castle resting on top of the cliffs. Their are figures with a horse on the beach down below who have crashed their boat on the shore which has caught fire seen in the 10th photo. Their is an even craquelure across the canvas with one patch on the reverse, some areas of paint loss and a second puncture. Fortunately the more significant damage is not on any of the main subject matter and would make an easy job for your restoration expert. 

This is a large painting with the gold gesso frame measuring approximately 36 x 27.5 inches while the canvas measures 30.25 x 22 inches. The painting has become dark with the original varnish still on the painting and would benefit from a good clean. This is an amazing early painting that made its way all the way "across the pond".
