Up for sale is an exceedingly rare 19th century hand colored etching depicting Napoleon in his study after the oil painting by Paul Delaroche from 1838. This etching is in exquisite condition with vibrant colors and a clean crisp imprint, their are no signs of damage or condition issues other than the minor tape marks that can be seen in the top left and right margins. This etching is done after a follower of Horace Vernet in the French School style.

Depicting not only Napoleon in the center their are 12 additional etchings within margins illustrating Napoleon in different situations. This is a larger etching with the plate mark measuring 17 x 22 inches while the entire sheet measures 22 x 30 inches. The frame this is beautifully displayed in is made of wood and measures 24 x 32 inches.

Their is provenance behind this etching and it is rather interesting and impressive attesting to the quality and scarcity of this print. Originally purchased from Galerie Raub in Brest France (as seen on the reverse) it was entered into one of the finest collections of strictly Napoleon artwork. The owner of the collection had arranged the sale of the entire set of works so that after he passed away his family would not have to worry about selling it off. It was purchased for approximately 2.2 million dollars. After the collector passed he was survived by his wife who when moving to a new house discovered this one last piece of Napoleon art that was hidden in the back of the closet and wasn't sold with the rest of the collection. I know this sounds too good of a story but I guarantee its authenticity and due to legalities I am unable to disclose the name of the man or family.

This etching is exceedingly rare to come across but can be found in a few French Museums and those locked away in private collections. The condition is by far the best I have been able to find and the images represent how fine it is. The quality, coloring and overall emotion is striking. The images provided accurately represent the condition but if you have any further questions please feel free to ask. If you are a Napoleon collector this would make a great centerpiece to your collection. If you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing, thanks for looking and good luck!
