Up for sale is an absolutely phenomenal original antique oil painting depicting the famous Windsor Castle and St. Georges Chapel located in Berkshire, England. The view of the castle is from the River Thames and or the shore of Eton Meadows which showing one of the best panoramic views of the 11th century castle. Executed in oil on panel this superb painting shows the River Thames in the foreground with a couple taking a romantic boat ride showing to the left a couple of the Queens beautiful white swans on the waters surface. Please note the nice addition of the color pink only found in the woman's dress in the center foreground who is also wearing freshly picked white flowers in her hair. This being a stand alone color the eye is usually first drawn here before moving up the the medieval / baroque architecture above.
The Round Tower sits left center with a large flying Royal Standard flag overhead while St. Georges Chapel sits center right. The entire span of the castle is shown from The Curfew Tower at the very far right to the far left side of the State Apartments. All resting under a rather fine blue/gray sky with some white clouds present creating a calm and peaceful mid day depiction.
The painting is unfortunately unsigned and undated but appears to be from the early to mid 19th century. Measuring approximately 21 x 13 1/2 inches the later wood frame measures 26 x 18 1/2 inches and stylistically matches the painting very well. The condition of the painting is excellent given the age of the work showing only some minor discoloration possibly attributing to some of the gray color in the sky and appropriate craquelure. The frame is also in excellent condition showing only some very minor cosmetic blemishes. There are some pencil inscriptions present on the backside of the board possibly indicating an address of the artist and while there appears to possibly read a name it is illegible. A white paper label is also present verso with the numbers "9933".
Please see the final image provided showing a few shots of the castle and another painting from the same location.
