Up for sale is an exquisite Victorian dog portrait of "Min" the chihuahua. Initialed low right "A.S." the work is dated 1898 and is executed in watercolor on paper. Wearing a lovely brown leather collar with a gold loop, the dogs name is displayed forever cementing the sitters identity. The painting measures 8.5 x 5.5 inches while its fabulous period gold gilt wood frame measures 14.5 x 9.75 inches. The painting shows exceptional skill with fine brushwork indicating the artist probably specialized in miniature works. I have attempted to identify the artist but unfortunately have not been able to attribute the work. There is some illegible pencil writing on the backside of the matting as shown photographed. In overall excellent condition the painting is free from any damage which is also true for its gorgeous frame, the matting shows some discoloration.
