Up for sale is an extremely rare and unusual oil painting depicting a WWII U.S. Soldier executed by a German Prisoner of War named Georg Donges at Marseille France. This original oil on canvas is not on traditional artists canvas but on a thin military canvas. With this work being executed on a thin type of military canvas shows that the artist did not have access to the proper supplies and was most likely done at the camp.

The frame measures approximately 21.5 x 27 inches while the painting measures 17.5 x 23.5 inches. Initialed in the top right corner of the painting "GD" for Georg Donges this work is also dated 1945. The reverse of the canvas is what tells its story with the artists name and his home of Tegernau a small German town south of Freiburg. The talent of the artist is apparent when viewing this work with life like detail making you almost feel your looking through a window to this soldier, not a painted depiction. Condition of the overall work is excellent with appropriate craquelure to its age.
