Up for sale a phenomenal original antique oil painting depicting the famous medieval French Chateau Gaillard at Andelys. Originally constructed in 1197 this castle now exists in ruins overlooking the French country side. This work is executed in oil on wood panel and depicts this castle at sunset with wonderful orange / yellow tones present in the sky and clouds. This painting appears unsigned but has not been removed from the frame for a possible signature under the frame. An original paper label is present verso from a previous French dealer this work passed through in the 20th century but the painting dates to the 19th century. The quality and level of execution is phenomenal with great color use and brushwork making this a truly gem of an artwork. The painting measures 10.75 x 8 inches while the frame measures 15.25 x 12 inches. Both the work and the frame are in excellent condition with only appropriate craquelure present on the painting and slight impression top left.
