Up for sale is a beautiful antique American mountain landscape oil painting depicting a lake in the center with figures on the shore and rowing in canoes. This work is a beauty even in its current original state resting in its gold gesso wood frame. Initialed in the lower right corner "N.M.B." it is also dated "189.?" right of the initials. This well executed painting has nice brushwork as well as use of color which even though is currently subdued by the old yellow varnish can be seen in the sky, water and mountain. Soft pinks and purple show this landscape in the evening or early morning. The artist painted in excellent little figures which adds great character to the picture as a real landscape, more than just a fantasy with even a horse drawn carriage crossing the bridge over the lake. This is a larger work of art with the original frame measuring 34 x 24 inches while the canvas measures 28.8 x 18 inches. The painting shows discoloration and three punctures that would be moderately simple for any restorer to fix, the frame also shows loss of gesso.
